Brother Archibald David Lindsay Hamilton was born in Brampton, Ontario and was of Irish descent. His family moved to the Toronto area when he was 12 and he attended Brampton and Toronto public schools. Once his education was complete he entered the paper business and has remained there ever since. He emigrated to the United States in 1885 and began work with the American Roll Paper Company and afterwards with the Graham Paper Company. He moved to Kansas City in 1891 to manage the company's branch here. He engaged in a number of different associations concerned with the improvement of Kansas City. He became member and then director of the Kansas City Manufacturers Association.
Brother Hamilton was a Mason and a member of the Kansas City Scottish Rite. He received the Knight Commander of the Court of Honour in 1889. He was also a member of Ararat Shrine.
