Brother Paul K. Kawakami (April 10, 1921 - February 6, 2014) a long-time resident of Kansas City, was born April 10, 1921 in Sacramento, CA, and passed away February 6, 2014. He and his wife, Kitty, opened an iconic diner called "Kitty's Cafe" on 31st at Cherry in the early 1950's. It was a local favorite and had an avid following. In the 1980's they semi-retired and bought a motel in Paola, KS. It is impossible to know how many he helped and/or fed, from family to street people. Paul was known for his quick smile, easy laugh and ready handshake. He was always proud of his family.
Brother Kawakami was a dedicated Scottish Rite Mason. He was Past Master Heroine Masonic Lodge #104 which later became a part of Ivanhoe Lodge #446; Past Master, Council of Cryptic Mason of Missouri; member KYCH Red Cross of Constantine, Knight Masons, Kansas City Valley Scottish Rite; and was Past Venerable Master-Lodge of Perfection. He was Past Director of Degrees Lodge of Perfection, member of Ararat Shrine since 1966, and was Past Director of Ararat Guides Unit.
