Brother Fred O. Wood was born in Hartville, Missouri on January 16, 1883. After graduating from Norwood high school he became a cowboy in the Texas panhandle. After some months he returned to Norwood where he taught school for three years. In 1921 he was hired by the Kansas City Scottish Rite to manage the business affairs of the temple. During his Masonic career Brother Wood became widely known in Masonic circles. He was a 33° degree Scottish Rite Mason, a past master of the Kansas City Scottish Rite Lodge of Perfection, he served as a member of the Triennual Council of the Grand Chapter of Missouri, he was former director of the national shrine magazine and in 1924 served as potentate of Ararat Shrine. During his life he also held positions with the National Biscuit Company (Nabisco), Swift & Company and the Ice Service Company.
Brother Wood was a member of the original advisory council for the Demolay. The members were Chairman John H. Glazier, Frank S. Land, Percy A. Budd, Frank A. Marshall, Arthur A. Metzger, Fred O. Wood, Leon Thalman, W. P. Osgood, Raymond H. Havens, Frank I. Buckingham, Ellis R. Jones and Alex McDonald.
