Raymond Havens was at the time of his death the president of the J.D. Havens Printing Company. As well as his fervor was known within Masonry it was also felt as a lifelong effort within Rotary. He first joined the Rotary Club of Kansas City on June 2, 1914. After serving with distinction and honor on many committees. He was chosen to serve as president of the Kansas City Rotary during the Rotary International Convention in Kansas City in 1918. In 1919, at the Salt Lake Rotary International Convention in Salt Lake, Ray was chosen to serve as the Sergeant-at-Arms for Rotary International and acquitted himself in superior fashion in preparation for the Atlantic City Convention. In Atlantic City he was elected to fulfill the duties of Vice-President of Rotary International. In 1922 at Los Angeles, Ray was selected as President of all Rotary. On his retirement from the presidency, he continued to maintain an interest in every Rotary activity, and worked on many committees. As a private in the ranks, never for one moment did he falter in his belief that Rotary had a great mission in the world.

In Masonry Brother Raymond Havens exceptional efforts were recognized in Masonry as they were in the outside world. He was a member of Rural Lodge No. 316 of Kansas City. He was recommended by Ill. Brother James G. Stowe, 33°, Consul-General to South Africa, to the Scottish Rite and Brother Havens became a 32° Master of the Royal Secret in the Valley of Kansas City in 1905. He received Knight Commander of the Court of Honour in 1913 and was elected Commander of the Demolai Council of Kadosh in 1915. He was coroneted a 33° Inspector General Honorary in 1919. Concurrent with his many responsibilities in the Scottish Rite, Brother Havens was also enthusiastic in his support of the Shrine, serving in progressive positions on the Divan of Ararat Shrine and ultimately as Potentate in 1915.
