Henry Baldwin was a United States Supreme Court Associate Justice, US Congressman. He was elected to represent Pennsylvania's 14th District in the United States House of Representatives, serving from 1817 until his resignation in 1822. He was nominated to the Supreme Court by President Andrew Jackson to fill the vacancy caused by the death of Bushrod Washington and confirmed by Congress in 1830. He served as an Associate Justice until his death in 1844. In 1837 he published the influential work “A General View of the Origin and Nature of the Constitution and Government of the United States." Originally interred in Oak Hill Cemetery in Washington, DC, his remains were re-interred in Greendale Cemetery. He was the half-brother of United States Constitution Signer Abraham Baldwin.
