Louis Phillip Rothschild, 32°
(Jul 8, 1864-Dec 17, 1934)

32° Consistory of Western Missouri, Kansas City

Interred: Rose Hill Cemetery, Kansas City, Missouri

Louis Rothschild was born in Leavenworth, Kansas on July 8, 1864 and lived there until he relocated to Kansas City in 1901. He completed his education in public and high schools and then entered the Rotchschild's store with his father, Philip Rothschild, pioneer merchant of the West.

In 1901 the business was removed to Kansas City, and Louis and his brother, Alfred, at once began a campaign of energy and ideas, which has resulted in victory and success. In Leavenworth, Mr. Rothschild built the first independent telephone in that town, and was also the moving spirit in the organization of the Merchants' Electric Light Company.

In Kansas City he identified himself with the public life of the town and was a 32° of the Kansas City Scottish Rite, a member of the Commercial Club, and also the Knights of Pallas.

Mr. Rothschild was married in 1899 to Miss Nora Westheimer, of St. Joseph, and they had one son. Louis and Nora resided at 400 East Armour Boulevard and when 70 years of age, he died of a heart attack at his home.

An article in the Oklahoman news website on September 19, 1992 announced that Dillard Stores were purchasing the Rothschild's stores and ending an era of the upscale clothing stores so everpresent for generations.
