Illustrious Brother Stephen Davis Thatcher was a charter member and the first 33° coroneted in the Valley of Kansas City. His funeral service was that of a Knight Kadosh, held at the Scottish Rite Temple at 15th and Troost on September 12, 1905. His funeral annoucement was signed by John Calvin Humes, 32°, Commander of the DeMolai Council of Knights Kadosh. The Supreme Council record shows that Brother Thatcher received his 32° from Grand Commander Albert Pike on June 28, 1885.

Brother Thatcher moved from Columbus, Ohio to Kansas City in 1872. He received the Scottish Rite degrees in 1875 before the Consistory of Western Missouri was established in Kansas City so he became a charter member when the Consistory was created. Brother Thatcher was the first Almoner and remained in that position until 1901. He retired from the Pacific Railway Company after serving as a railroad agent for 30 years.
